2010 Summit

SECURING THE WORLD'S ENERGY NEEDS
With a Mix of Traditional and Alternative Fuels

September 23 , 2010
Washington Hilton
Washington, DC

THE THEME

The Washington Energy Summit examined the intersection between energy policies, resources and technologies from a global perspective. It focused on the need to accommodate both fossil and renewable fuels, balancing support for vital traditional fuels with encouragement of promising alternatives. Conference participants debated realistic expectations for energy supplies in the future and suggest policies that will assure global energy security.

In addition to examining the full range of energy options, the Energy Summit looked at international energy sources, production capacities, distribution networks, and the interface of the world energy industries with their U.S. counterparts.

Reliable, cost-effective energy is a critical component of healthy economies for both suppliers and users. Government policies can either facilitate efficient uses and competitive prices for energy, or skew the market in ways that raise costs unnecessarily and diminish productivity.

THE PARTICIPANTS

U.S. and foreign government officials, Members of Congress, energy industry executives, environmentalists, advocacy association leaders, academics, and journalists discussed the various aspects of energy security at the Washington Energy Summit. Keynote speakers included world leaders who have direct involvement in setting national and, in many respects, global energy policies.
