Stockton Williams
Senior Advisor for Urban Policy
U.S. Department of Energy
Mr. Williams is Senior Advisor for Urban Policy at the U.S. Department of Energy. He is responsible for strengthening partnerships between DOE and leaders in local communities to expand clean energy economic development. He works to develop policy and programmatic solutions to help accelerate financing and drive demand for energy efficiency and renewable energy solutions at the local level. He also represents DOE in the Obama Administration’s urban and metropolitan economic development initiatives.
Mr. Stockton has served in the Administration since 2009, initially as Senior Advisor for clean energy and sustainable housing at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. At HUD he was primarily responsible for developing new initiatives to expand the benefits of energy efficiency and renewable energy in the residential sector, including FHA PowerSaver, the Green Refinance Plus program and the Multifamily Energy Innovation Fund.
Prior to joining HUD, Mr. Stockton was Senior Advisor and Director of Green Economy Initiatives for Living Cities, a consortium of global foundations and financial institutions that makes catalytic investments to improve prospects for low-income people and communities, where he managed philanthropic investments in sustainable development activities in 17 cities.
Mr. Stockton was previously Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer for Enterprise Community Partners, where he led government affairs, innovation, fundraising and communications and had executive responsibility for the Green Communities initiative, the largest nongovernmental effort in the U.S. to bring the benefits of clean energy to residents, builders and investors in affordable housing. In recognition of Enterprise’s environmental leadership, Fast Company named the organization “Social Enterprise of the Year” in 2009.
Mr. Stockton’s recent affiliations include being a member the Urban Land Institute’s Advisory Group on Climate Change, Land Use and Energy; the Trust for Public Land Real Estate Council; and the Board of Directors of CNT-Energy. Mr. Stockton has a Master of Science Degree in Real Estate Development from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Religion from Princeton University.
